Junior Laser Applications Engineer

The TLS team is growing as we expand our core business and create more laser solutions for our customers.
 

During this growth we've opened up this Junior Laser Applications Engineer position which is a fun, creative and technically challenging role in our company. The primary function is to work within an applications team to understand our customers' manufacturing problems and create laser processing solutions using our laser laboratory.

 

We are looking for an individual with experience in laser materials processing and/or scientific design of experiments who can take on some of the world's most challenging laser process development projects in a small-business environment.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in science/engineering with 1-2 years industry experience in R&D -OR- Master’s degree in a related field.

  • Desirable related experience includes semiconductor fab, optics and metrology, materials science, etc.

  • Ability to create and manage experiments, following good scientific procedures.

  • Familiarity with laser CAD/control software or CNC/CAM software.

  • Familiarity with laser-materials interactions and laser processing, or strong background in a related field.

  • Problem solving mindset with the ability to break down large projects into a series of tests and experiments.

  • Ability to present technical data into simple, clear and presentable formats for both internal reports and customer reports/presentations

  • Passion to learn new technology and applications.

  • Personal drive to work in an extremely creative, fast paced and start-up environment.

  • Proactive and able to lead small technical projects.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Design and execute on laser process development experiments for customer applications and present the results to TLS management and customers.

  • Collaborating with the Applications team to develop new laser applications and processes, generating future business opportunities for our tools.

  • Utilization of proprietary software to discover new techniques for laser process development and functionality of peripheral equipment.

  • Support team effort to improve laser equipment in TLS laboratory.

  • Maintain cleanliness, organization and efficiency of TLS laboratory.

  • Provide knowledge transfer to the tool design team based on lab experiments.

  • Support the design and build of laser systems during customer laser tool development.

  • Participate in TLS training and improving on technical and management skills.

  • Support of customer tools, including both remote and onsite service and support (includes occasional domestic travel to customer site).
